Laut Bercermin – Film Screening

Laut Bercermin – Film Screening

6pm 30th August – NFSA

Laut-BercerminBalai Bahasa Indonesia (ACT) is organising a by-invitation screening of a recent critically-acclaimed Indonesian film, ‘The Mirror Never Lies’ (Laut Bercermin), by one of Indonesia’s emerging women directors, Kamila Andini.

The Mirror Never Lies is filmed in Wakatobi, a tiny archipelagic regency off the coast of Southeast Sulawesi in eastern Indonesia.  The film tells the tale of a mother and daughters’ response to a tragedy at sea and beautifully combines a portrayal of the culture of the Bajo people, known as Indonesia’s ‘Sea Gypsies’, with breathtaking underwater cinematography that shows the natural wonder of the marine environment.  The film was jointly funded by the WWF and the Wakatobi local  government.

The screening will take place at the National Film and Sound Archive in Acton on Wednesday, 30 August 2017.  The Indonesian Ambassador has kindly agreed to introduce the film and there will be a complimentary light meal before the screening.  For further details and to obtain an invitation , please contact Heath McMichael at hmcmichael@tpg.com.au
